Vista (32 bit) Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal BSOD

By larryjr88 ·
Hello! I just got a new system and have been receiving this BSOD very frequently when playing Counter-Strike:Source. I read that it might be a driver error, but what driver?

I'm not sure how to diagnose it, or what info to give you guys to help me. If you could offer any help, please do. Let me know if you need any specific info. My gut tells me it's my sound drivers because of the way it crashes, it seems like sound causes it.

Asus Striker Extreme
Intel Quad
4GB RAM
nVidia 8800 Ultra

need more info

Since this error can be generated by a number of things, including personal firewall, I/O issues and devices, we'll need the exact stop error codes to help diagnose it for you. Can you write down everything and post it here please?

More info is needed to help determine the cause of a BSOD. You gave 1 of the keys, but there are 2-3 main parts that are needed as well

The first part is the STOP: code (example: STOP: 0x000000A1(then 4 more sets like this).
The second part, you gave
the 3rd part would say (may not be listed) "in file" (example: in file ati.sys)

If it leads to a common file, that is shared, it will be harder to determine, but if it leads to a driver file for a specific device, or program, there is hope.

Try this though, along with gathering this info, go with your gut. update your sound card!
While you are at it, you can also update your video card.
and just to check, maybe look at the games siet to see if there are known issues with the quad-core proc. or any of your main HW pieces.
