Vista audio driver problem

By Hardware_Jinx ·
Recently complete re-installed Vista on both my notebook & desktop from removing SP1 update.

This time I?ve struck trouble after installing the Windows update on RealTek audio driver. The sound is gone, there is no sound (from Windows OS & media players).
The SPDIF audio driver was installed by MS and I could not un-install or remove it.
I?ve tried ?Uninstall? & ?Driver Update?, but this SPDIF driver kept re-installing itself.
I?ve tried to install the various RealTek drivers; downloaded from Asus, RealTek & Software Patch, but all were unsuccessful with an error code ?10?.

I have spent hours trying to fix this problem, much more time than spent installing the OS.

Appreciate any advice.

Realtek AC97 and Vista doesn't load drivers until it does it's updates. I haven't had to install Audio drivers yet. Sometimes I sits and thinks other times I just sit. So if you let Vista do it's updates you may be in for a surprise.

And the solution is to

Reinstall the OS and this time do not tick Auto Update before Windows Opens for the first time.

What happens is that the Realtech Sound Drivers have not been Digitally Signed by M$ so once WGA is installed you can not install the Realtech Sound Drivers you get a Error Code 10 Message.

What you have to do is isolate Vista and XP as well from the Update Server before allowing Windows to open for the first time and then install the Sound Drivers. That way the ASUS one will work perfectly.
