I cannot get any audio in windows vista. It “was” working. Then it “wasn’t”. No explanation. No reason. It just stopped working. I was using a Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit audio card, and my onboard audio which is Realtek AC’97 was disabled so as to reduce the likelyhood of conflicts. When the problems began (again for no apparent reason) I tried removing the SB card so there would be only one audio source and perhaps confuse Vista less… still no audio. As it happens, there is no available “Vista” driver for AC’97, so I am forced to use an XP version (which windows is happy to install). The device appears in my device manager, and it says that it is working properly. However when I go to “sounds” or try to run anything requiring sound I either get no audio, or a message that says no audio device is installed. Can you say BS? Another issue is whenever you go to the “recording” tab in the sounds options, the window freezes up and you have to close it out with the task manager. Something to do with an audio dll shell not responding. Windows update has no suggested fix.
Anyone? lol. All I wanted was to use my microphone to play online games… *sniff*
