Have a server running server 2003 w/sp2 with all updates applied. Have MANY XP machines connecting to it via terminal services.
Customer went out and bought some cheap e-machines with Vista.
When they try to connect using the remote desktop connection, one of two things happens:
1 – it will start to try to login, but after a little bit of the Windows Server 2003 logo starts to show on the client’s screen, it just hangs. The terminal server manager does not show that they tried to login.
-or –
2 – it will login but sometimes there are no icons and/or no programs will run.
I have scoured the internet looking for this problem solved, but no one apparently has had the same problem.
I have applied the rdp patch to the .rpd file on the client machine. I seem to be able to get the icons to appear when I change the display resolution properties in the rdc program to be 800×600 with 256 colors. Still can’t get anything to load.
AND, I’m reproducing this using a friend’s Sony laptop with Vista.
OH, the server is running in peer-to-peer mode, no domain controller .. it has been running fine like this for almost 2 years with the client machines being either XP Pro or Home. This only started when the Vista systems were introduced into the mix.
