Vista creating multiple desktop folders

I have vista home installed on one laptop and the OS is creating multiple DESKTOP folders. When you click on a file (.doc, .xls or whatever) even if this file is shown on the desktop the associated program indicates the file not found. I have to open the PROGRAM directly (word, excel, etc..) and locate the file in one of 3 DESKTOP FOLDERS.

Any ideas how to stop the CREATION of multiple DESKTOP FOLDERS?

This is a new one,

Sounds like a malware program or virus on your system.
You can download this:
Spybot:

Ccleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Ok,
Do you have any Anti-virus software on your system?. Hopefully you have.
But the only thing is to start over again.
Save all of your data and then download this program:
Killdisk:
http://www.killdisk.com/
This will delete anything on your hdd. It takes around 3 to 4 hours if you do one pass that is. So when it has done its job, re-install Windows vista and all of the updates. Hope all goes well.
