Vista does not ping

By shennyr ·
I'm trying to connect PCANYWHERE from Vista as Remote to a XP host. I can't ping the host from the VISTA computer. I'm able to ping the host from any other pc.

Try this

Try turning on Vista's network discovery and check the firewall to make sure its allowing ICMP packets. If you have a third party firewall drop it then see if the ping's work.

Vista using PCanywhere

Thanks for the reply. I have done what you recommend: Network discovery on and allowing ICMP packets with all.

Still can ping out the computer that needs to be used. Any other recomendations...

Check

Take a look at the gateway that is set on the Vista PC, also if you have any A/V or firewalls drop them and see if you can ping.

If you can ping after you do this enable the A/V try to ping again, if that succeeds then your firewall will be the culpurt so you will need to add an exception to allow ICMP.
