Vista explorer can't read a DVD (unknown format) but DIR command can do it!

By paolo.maggiolini_c ·
I was trying to install Visual Studio 2008 from a DVD but exporer fails to read the disk ( unknown format ) asking me to format it instead.
I've tried with CMD and DIR command and I have succeeded starting the setup and reading the directory tree, but the setup stops asking for existing files that explorer can't see.
The PC is a new HP Pavillion and the problem exists with all the cd/DVDs.

I could xcopy from the DVD to my disk but this situation seems to me quite nonsense.

Any idea? Thanks.

that it cannot see?

Also it will not install until you've installed .NET Framework 3.5.

Vista Explorer seems now correctly working .....

by paolo.maggiolini_c In reply to download diskheal

Thanks for the advice.
I downloaded the software but it failed becouse of a not registered component TABCTL32.OCX. I tried registering manually it but regsvr32 failed, probably for another missing component.
I stopped here becouse I found that, "miracolo", explorer had started correctly reading dvd.
Yesterday none and today all of them.
I couldn't say having done anything. I rebooted the system without any result yesterday and at last I made an xcopy copying locally all the setup from the DVD and then installed the software from the hard disk.
Mah! A Windows update made the work? I don't know.
Hi and thanks anyway,

Paolo

Installation of .NET

requires you to restart in order to complete its installation, VS2008 requires v3.5 so maybe thats what did it!
