Vista – New users unable to logon

by csteinke . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

I recently purchased a new HP pavilion running Vista home. The initial user profile is fine. Set with administrator rights.

In transferring files (using the MS utility) I brought over my wife’s “files and settings”. It created a profile for her. She is able to logon, but has poor internet performance. Under my profile everything is fine…much better than hers.

I thought I would create a new profile for her from scratch. When I tried with a new name, it would create the profile, but the user is unable to logon, no matter whether they are “standard” or “admin”.

I have scanned for viruses…none.

Any newly created user gets the error: User profile services has failed the logon.

There must be some kind of corruption in the user files. Any ideas how to clean it up in Vista?

Thank you.
