Vista / Outlook Web Access

By mmyers04 ·
I just upgraged my notebook to Vista and now have an issue with Outlook Web Access. I am able to open all files / inbox, however when I try and compose or forward an email it doesn't allow any text to be entered -It's just the red "x". Does anyone know how to fix this?

Vista and OWA

by Tig2 In reply to Vista / Outlook Web Acces ...

As far as I know there is not yet a fix.

I have to assume that your notebook is a corporate asset. If the corp hasn't done a full upgrade, you won't be able to fix this issue.

Sorry. Best that I can offer is to try installing FireFox and try from there. It may work.

Good Luck

I am seeing this same problem on VISTA Home and Premium editions as well.

The Opera browser also works fine to fix the problem (short term for the end-user), but IExpore does not work in the outlook web shell for sending messages. You can view them, but you cannot send due to an exchange server problem.

"The cause of the problem is due to Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista no longer include support for Dynamic HTML Editing ActiveX control, and thus missing a functionality that Microsoft Exchange Outlook Web Access relies on to do HTML editing in Outlook Web Access."

It looks as though the fix is on the server side and not the client side.

Easy fix..

Just go to options on the bottom left of your OWA and then look for Email Security. There is a MIME install that you can run. Install this and everything will work fine.

David, Thanks.

David,

This did the trick. I posted a set of graphical instructions on how to do this on my web site.

If anyone is interested you may see it here:

now it just crashes

by cabaker In reply to David, Thanks.

We appled the hotfix to the Exchange 2003 server. Also installed the MIME control as indicated. This solved the little ?x? problem, but now iexplorer.exe crashes everytime you press Send or Save, just as other users have described on this thread.

crashing problem

Using Vista as well. Upgraded MIME control on local side tonight. Internet Explorer now reboots each time I close a window - such as cancel forward or reply. Do we know how to clear this problem up?

I installed the patch from the server and now I can write in the message area, but when I try to send the email IE7 crashes and restarts.

Not just Vista

by SWells In reply to Vista / Outlook Web Acces ...

Guys this is a known issue with IE 7 not just a vista issue, it also occurs in XP with IE 7 installed. The fix is pretty easy as stated, you have to update the mime controls on the server then run the install of the controls back on the clients as explained above.
