Vista recovery CD hangs

By Fireboss ·
A client has a Dell Inspiron E1705 Vista 3x bit Os. When she tried to boot this morning it gave the "error loading operating system" message. I slapped in a Vista recovery cd downloaded from NeoSmart to fix the MBR. The system starts to boot, goes through the Windows is loading files part and I get the little green bar showing it is trying to start up. Then the bar vanishes and the screen is black; no mouse no nothing. I know it can be a pig to load so I waited but still nothing. I tried a Win 7 recovery disk and it boots fine. It says it can't fix the start up issues but I didn't expect it to i was just trying to get it to boot. I tried three different Vista recovery CDs with no success. Any ideas other than upgrade or reinstall? I know I can do that but of course she has no data backup. Fixing the MBR is the first choice.
