Vista Won't Start Freezes After Bios When Loading, Black Screen

By Jay-Zee05 ·
Vista freezes after bios screen when it shows that it's loading. Can't access safe mode. Only can from boot disc that i downloaded. Reformatted drive bad idea. When I try to boot from disc I get to the Windows Vista install and type in my product key it says that install.wim is missing or doesn't exist.

Did memory check. Nothing wrong but bought new memory anyways.

Installed Ubuntu everything is fine for about a half a minute when i log in but then my screen freezes.

I have an emachines t5234, 2gb ram, AMD Athlon X2 64 4000+, Nvidea 6150se chipset. Help?!

Was the drive a recovery partition?

That would explain the missing wim message.

You could be having a hardware failure, possibly overheating. Make sure fans are running, and that the box is not full of dust.

You may want to check the RAM - make sure it's seated right. Run diagnostics on it.

I thought it was but it wasn't

I thought it was. I did it when i was in the command prompt through safe mode on the boot disc. But it began to format everything but the recovery partition. Also the install.wim was missing even before I formatted. I ran the memory diagnostic tools like 3 times already and the memory is good.

I had taken it to Best Buy to the Geeksquad they had run a test on it before and the results said as follows, "Unit will not load Windows or MRI PE. CPU failed "MP SYMMETRY" test in PC-CHECK."
