I've got Vista's Black Screen of Purgatory (screen is black with a cute mouse cursor that actually works!) but nothing I've done will bring up the login prompt.
I've reloaded from scratch or restored this system from backup at least 8 times now, trying different scenarios...
Without fail, I am able to install all my apps and drivers, rebooting umpteen times and connect to my Windows 2003 Domain, reboot, get the CTRL-ALT-DEL prompt and log in as any valid domain (or local) user. I am able to LOG OFF and log back in again as a different user. After a while, I get bored and restart the computer.
This is where the fun ends: I get the cute little green boot progress indicator and then the screen goes black. BSOP.
Oh ya... It's a Dell T3400 with 64-bit Vista Business preloaded.
What the ...?

I had to create a new OU in Active Directory and move this computer into it then run the Group Policy Management Console right-click the new OU and choose "Block Inheritance" so that policies aren't applied to that group
