    VKD Error Message on Startup

    Locked

    by lylea42 ·

Just recently received a VKD Error Message on a desktop workstation and a laptop. Have previously seen a VXD Error Message but have never encountered a VKD Error Message. What is the problem and is there a fix without having to format and reinstall Windows 98.

I seemed to fix the first problem with the desktop by rebooting the system several times until it worked but the laptop is still giving me the same error message.

      Hello

1st you should try this befor reformating your drive there is a way to correct files if thay get currputed here is how

      goto start
      Run
      type in SFC
      and run
a window will come up it defults to scan for altered files

this will not only check the .VDK files but other files that make up your system
if there is a error it will prompt you to extract the file from your windows 98 cd.

I would go to the Network Icon and Remove the Client for Microsoft, or the Client for Novel, then Add the same client again, this tricks the operating system into getting the correct .VXD drivers. If this does not work repeat for File and Print sharing – if that is installed.

I had the exact problem on a system a few months back, I was unable to get into windows, normal or safe mode, as a last resort I ran a full scandisk (surface scan) and it fixed the problem. I believe the area of the disk that this file was located in was corrupted, scandisk found the bad sector, moved the file and all was fine!!!
      Good luck
