VLC Video Playing MP4 and MKV Files

    by dennydee ·

I have an HP 15ba113cl laptop. Win 10 OS. When playing a video file mp4 or mkv etc the VLC player will play it and audio is fine. Video is unwatchable as horizontal lines cover the whole screen. I also have a Nextbook also running Win 10 and it plays the videos with no issues at all. Any suggestions of what i could do to try and fix the problem?

      Try: Disable Hardware Acceleration.

“Open VLC player and go to Tools>Preferences. Select the ‘Video’ tab to go to video-specific settings. Under the ‘Display’ group of settings, turn off the ‘Accelerated video output (Overlay)’ option. Click ‘Save’ and try playing your video file again to see if the scrambling is gone.”
      – From the web.

While the cause is usually a video driver there is not enough detail to start a discussion about that. Specifically if the OS and drivers are stock, if this ever worked. Sometimes I find folk reload the laptop and don’t know how to finish the OS installs.

This can be as a result of the vlc hardware acceleration. You can enable the hardware acceleration in VLC and check if the error is fixed.

Are you getting the same problem with other media players like Windows’ own bundled Media Player?
