VMware and WinXP

By rkuhn ·
Sorry guys, I don't have time to solve this myself or I probably could. Just easier to offer some points and get my solution faster.

I installed VMware 5.xx and am building several virtual PC's for testing...Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003.

Windows 2000 works great. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 won't disply anything greater than 8 bit color and 640X480 screen resolution.

Already installed VMware Tools...didn't work.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, don't know the video card on the server right now (at home), but it is a dual processor, 4GB RAM, Compaq Proliant server.

You will need a video card to get anything more than 8-bit color and 640X480 screen resolution.

The server's video card is a ATI Rage IIC PCI card.

In all virtual PC's, the video card shows up in the device manager as the VMware SVGA adapter.

Again, Win 2000 will let me go to 800X600 with 256 bit color but Win XP and Win Server 2003 only do 640X480 in 8 bit color.
