VoIP and Instant Messaging

Due to inactivity, I’ve renamed this post from “Live Communications Server 2005”

Alright, alright – let’s see if I have this one down. Here we go…

1) Software package runs from just over $700.00 to $3154.00 USD, with a $31 per client licencing fee

2) The server runs only on a 2003 machine

3) Only Messenger 5.0 and 5.1 are supported

4) The clients can only run 2000 or XP

5) The server requires AD

* Is that all? Well then, sign me up. 😉
I’m I the only one who thinks that these limitations are ridiculous? Could this be a contributting factor in promoting the move to 2003 and active directory? Would it actually be worth meeting these requirements to install such a (from various sources) sloppy product?

On a side note, what are your thoughts on IM based voice communications within a tree or among a trusted relationship?

What about this IM implimentation over the net?
