Vol control icon disappears XP taskbar

    Locked

    by dcook ·

I’m running Win XP Pro SP1. For some reason, when I select “place volume control in the taskbar” from within Control Panel/Sounds, I will see the volume control icon for the remainder of my XP session. As soon as I reboot again, the icon disappears! From the taskbar menu, I’ve also selected “always show” from within the customize button of “hide inactive icons”. No matter what I do, it always disappears when rebooted. Is there a registry tweak out there that will solve this issue? Thanks!

after you click place volume control in the taskbar, do you hit ok or apply? if you are hitting ok that is why it is only up for the remainder of the session. Hit apply and reboot immediately. Also if you do an improper shut down after making any changes the settings will not be saved.

I’ve tried it both ways and still lose the icon upon any reboot wether soft or cold.
