Voluntary work

By karimo ·
I have been reading some threads about careers and starting in the IT world and often it is mentioned that people without formal experience should do voluntary work. Any pointers on how to approach this issue? Any organisations out there that can be recommended?

non for profit

You can offer you skills to a small non-for profit organization. You can get some experience and probably a recommendation.

I worked with volunteers in all areas, including IT, for about 10 years. Find an organization you believe in and be up front about what you're looking for. Make it clear, though, that you're looking for a win-win, not just a resume booster. Resume boosters tend to disappear as soon as they get the reference letter.
