VPN across wireless connection

By Welcha ·
I am setting remote access for 6 new laptop users in the org. Several questions:
1: When connected with cable, the VPN connects with the network - Win2k3 server through SonicWall firewall using SonicWall VPN client. But attempting a 802.11g connection, it fails. Is this an issue inherent in attempting VPN with wireless?
2: When connected via VPN, I am unable to connect to shares on the older, Win2k server. Any suggestions?

well for # 2, you need a pool of LAN addresses for remote users. Users who come in via VPN don't automatically get a LAN address. If you run DHCP you can set aside 6 or 8 address in a Pool for DHCP relay agent.

#1 is a bit more tricky. VPN over an 802.11g shouldn't be a problem because there has to be an wireless connection though an ISP which then allows a VPN over the wire [assuming the LAN network is wired to your ISP. Might have more to do with security such as IPSec coming in on L2TP. Might give us some more info on what protocols are being used, what security, how the sonicwall handles VPN and it's security setting. [Global VPN client settings]
