VPN and Wireless Laser Printer

by evan . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

Hi. I recently hooked up a wireless laser printer for my friend at her office. The installtion was rough (The printer kept changing IP addresses), but eventually I told each computer to look for the printer by it’s Hostname and so far (fingers crossed) it has been ok. The only other problem is that when she logs into her VPN and goes to print something, a windows box will pop-up saying that she cannot print because she is either connected to a VPN or out of range of the printer. After she logs off the VPN, her document prints right away.

Here’s my questions in a nutshell:

1) Is it possible to print wirelessly while connected to a VPN

2) The printer’s wireless setting changed the IP addresses on me. This is a problem since the computer is looking for the printer by IP address. Since I have changed it to look for it by Host name, it should work ok right?

Here’s some specs:

– Both her laptop and desktop are running XP Pro SP2.
– The laser printer is an HP 1022NW
– Her VPN dials into various offices around the country.
