vpn client

By donchi1212 ·
I have a cisco vpn client on my computer running xp. Yesterday the client was working fine and today whenever I click on the client it just flashes and never starts. Can this problem be related to the services or is something wrong with the client. Can someone tell me how I should trouble shoot the problem.

Although I'm not familiar with the Cisco VPN client, this is typical behavior of any program that tries to start again when it did not close properly the last time it was run. There is probably a left-over process running that didn't properly end the last time you closed the program. You can do one of two things, depending on how computer-savvy you are:

1. If you know the name of the process(es) that the client runs, you can right click on the task bar and open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, find the process that shouldn't be running and end it manually.

2. If you don't know the name of the process or just don't want to try that 'cause it can be a bit scary, simply reboot your computer. This will reset any left-overs that didn't close properly and you should be able to run the client again after that.

If one of those two things doesn't fix it, then the program itself has probably gotten corrupted and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

Hope this helps!

When you get the client installed you get all the details from the helpdesk or admin for your password and id remote access setup is included the admin may have changed the location of the server, the data in the dialup may have changed eg numbers prefix due to location or you may have call waiting on the line which needs clearing if all password and data for dial up ok ask for a talk through with help desk but make sure you have details and permissions to hand also are you in a different location or have you changed servers? all can affect you

I remember getting that same reaction when I had IE 6 open. Now I make sure IE is closed before I open VPN Client.
