VPN configuration

What you want to do first, is in win2k, go into Routing and Remote Access. Right-click on the server, then choose 'Configure routing and remote access'. Follow the wizard, and choose to setup a Remote Access Server. You only need the tcp/ip protocol, so if that's installed, you should be okay.

once the wizard is complete, you're done. It will setup your VPN server with the default options. If you wish, you may tinker with it more to your liking. What you need to do next, is to have auser account created on this server or domain controller. You need to make sure that the user account has permission to dial in.

Next, you just need to create a normal dial up connection on your client, whether it's XP or 98.

You'll need to specify the IP address of your server (public address). Once you're finished with that, just dial up to the internet as usual, then you double-click on your new dial up connection and it will "dial in" to the server.

That's pretty much the basic setup. Don't forget if you have any firewall software on your client/server, you'll need to allow PPTP packets through or port 1779.

good luck,
