VPN Connection Complete – But can’t find remote computer

Hello!

I have had a very old laptop for some time running XP. Someone else set up the connection for me to login to my VPN and access my desktop PC at work remotely. I have been able to do this for years.
Now, I just bought a new Dell Vostro 1500 with Windows XP, and I hava a wireless router that I use. I created the VPN network connection, and it prompts me to log on and says that it is connected, but I can’t access the internet and if I try to use Remote Desktop it says it can’t find the specified computer…please help!
