VPN Display Issues

I recently received VPN from work. When I log in from home or from another computer at work, I see my desktop, but it is displaying things incorrectly. Windows looks like it is in classic mode, but I am not in classic mode on my computer. Outlook displays in gray on the remote desktop. When I return to my computer, the taskbar has been lowered, but I didn’t lower it while remoting in and Outlook is still all gray. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Our IT dept can’t seem to figure it out.
