VPN fails to connect to domain

We installed a Corporate VPN using IPass and Cisco VPN client. We can actually connect to the network and to the Internet/Intranet. But the problem we have is that sometime I can connect to our local domain and sometime not. I don't get any error messages during the connection thru Ipass or VPN client. Any ideas why could this be happening?

Is the issue name resolution or full connectivity?

If you can ping local network devices and connect via IP address, but not by name, then you have a name resolution problem. Make sure you have the proper DNS and WINS settings either on the client(if static) or the vpn device(if dhcp enabled.)

steps to troubleshoot:
Ping the address of a server/device
- If this fails, check your routes "route print" make sure you have a route that allows connectivity to your lan. Try a "tracert w.x.y.z" and see where the route fails.

then ping the name
If returns "unnone host", try the fully qualified domain name(ex. server01.company.com), check your dns & wins settings, "IPCONFIG /ALL"

then try to connect to the server/device by IP address. This is just to check that you can connect to it, if you can't check the ACL's on your vpn device.
