VPN Implementation Considerations

By PowerIT ·
Research has uncovered a plethora of options out there for any vpn implementation, so can I ask a few TechRepublic managers/members if they have any advice on buying considerations that need to be in place before commiting to any specific solution.

My circumstances:

- two geographically seperate networks
- 100-200 users per site
- legacy network in place (10 BaseT)
- existing firewall in place (NetPilot possibly at ISP end for one site only)
- one exchange 2003 server
- one file server

My initial thoughts would be to increase effective communications through VPN access and improve future resource allocation by allowing remote access. I have seen a few topology examples and like the idea of a VPN/ISA server sandwiched in between two firewalls and then passing on traffic appropriately.

Any considerations would be grateful as a heads up. I believe some IT budget will be available but want the most cost effective solution available against maintenance and support and security.

Change management may be crucial as to the planned solution. Advice would also be appreciated as to how to take this forward along side the existing network infrastucture, e.g phased/partial/complete/ implementation methods
