VPN Issues

By brian ·

I have a VPN server running on my XP Pro desktop. I am able to connect/log in with no problems. However, I can't access any of the server's resources. A "net view" only shows my local computer. Trying to ping the server does not get a response. Trying to browse the workgroup also only shows the local computer. I am logging in as a valid user local to the server, we are set up as a workgroup, the client machine is in the same workgroup and I have plenty of stuff shared. I am stumped!

somewhere in the vpn client i think there is a setting 'use remote gateway' try that. you will have to set it back to your local gateway when done else no websurfing

On the server, under 'incoming TCP/IP properties' did you configure a static IP for the inbound connection? XP sometimes has issues relaying a DHCP generated TCP/IP address to the VPN client. See MS knowledge base article 896072;en-us;896072.
