    VPN Network and E-mail problem

    Locked

    by ms7212 ·

I am running a Windows 2000 server with RAS on it to act as our connecting point using Windows VPN client to connect. Users can connect, but once connected they cannot connect to the Exchange 5.5 server. Users are also unable to browse the network. This was working fine, but now is not and I am unsure why.
    Thanks for your help!

Check if you have IP routing configured on RAS server. It sounds like you recently changed something in “Routing and Remote Access”. If you don’t have routing, you will be able to access server itself from both, LAN and VPN, but your LAN will be unaccessible from VPN.

      Good luck,

        Michael,
Thanks for trying to answer my question. I thought the same thing so I recreated the VPN server from scratch. I do have a static route going to the IP address of the Exchange server within the RAS settings. I thought that would take care of it, but it didn’t. Any other thoughts?
        Thanks,
        Mike

This could be a number of things, but a couple of items to check:

      1. Are the clients getting assigned an IP address in the correct subnet? If you have recently changed/replaced/updated the NIC card and/or drivers in this server, check your RAS settings to be sure the NIC is showing up with the correct IP address and, if using DHCP relay, be sure it is set to use the correct connection (i.e., the internal NIC) and DHCP server address to relay.

      2. If using DHCP to assign IPs, are clients correctly configured for DNS or WINS for name resolution (either assigned through DHCP or static)?

      Hope this helps!
