VPN RUNNING ON RAS

By rayze ·
I have a computer set up with windows 2000 Server. It has 2 NICs one for my internal 192.168.0.x network and for my cablemodem(dhcp). I am trying to configure RRAS on windows 2000 to run it as a VPN which is a direct option. I configured it and started the service, and my internet connection dropped, i can't see the outside world and the outside world can't see me, i can't ping my ip from outside until i stop the rras service. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I did something like this recently. When I configured R and RAS as a VPN server (using the wizard), that is what happened. I removed the configuration (right click on the server and select disable), and reset it up using the wizard for a Rmemote Access Server. Then it worked fine as a VPN.

Also, Make sure that under the properties of the server, you check to enable it as a router.

1. You have to have a static IP address for your internal nic.
2. You have to have a static IP address for your External IP
3. Uninstall RRAS
4. Make sure you can access the internet
5. If you can, Install SP2 next. If you run the "VPN" option when setting up RRAS on Win2k, there is a known bug. You have to run SP2 first.
