VPN with cable modems on Win2K Pro

    Locked

    by ahroo ·

I have two NIC in one machine running Win2K Pro. One NIC is a cable internet connection. I want to set the machine to allow other computers, my work machine, to connect via a VPN. When I go to set up the VPN accept calls connection, I am unable to “see” or select my network card and thus, my internet connection. ????

When you run the Network Connection Wizard (e.g., from Start/Settings/Network and Dialup/Make New Connection) and choose “Accept Incoming Connections” as the Network Connection Type, you can choose to select none of the connection types listed (e.g., installed modems, parallel ports, etc.), instead selecting the “Allow virtual private network connections” radio button on the next step of the wizard.

On the following step, you can select who will be allowed to remotely connect to your Windows2000 Professional, connecting users must provide a username and password for which remote access is enabled (i.e., selected in this dialog). The next stage of the wizard allows you to choose whatever network protocols you will want to communicate with over the VPN connection, you can also select whether incoming connections should be allowed to use local file and print sharing services. Then you can name your incoming connection, and you’re done. If you leave the defaults, a little icon willappear in your system tray when someone connects to the local network via your VPN connection. Be aware that only 1 (one) client can connect via VPN to a Win 2K Pro computer simultaneously – if you need more concurrent connections, either buy 2K Server or download Linux.

      Goog luck.
