What causes a VXD Error on installing WINdows any version but NT?
I have replaced the Hard Drive, and the CD ROM drive, the LS 120(I hate this thing) is going to be replaced, I have tired different copies of Windows 98,(three different CD's) and still get the error. IS this the chip,
We are running an AMD K6-2, 600mghtz,Gigabyte motherboard, 96MB RAM, and western Digital HD(30GB) and a secondary HD(Maxtor, 27 gig)

Thanks,

Anne Johnson

What Vxd error, exactly? Doing a quick search for them seems to point to their existence since the Win 95 days, with a variety of flavors. Further, at what point in the install does this happen? Since you've seen it across several CD's and with different changes in the base hardware, it could be something in the BIOS settings. Try turning off all video shadowing in RAM and see if that makes it go okay.

The error occurs when, 1)setup starts copying
files,2) setup configuring hardware, setup detecting plug and play, and when you first log into windows. the exact error is fatal excepetion casued VXD in VCache(01).

This a hardware conflict with the device drivers being accessed to load,it may be that you are haveing a problem loading Windows on a AMD motherboard that has a processor speed over 300mhz,check the AMD website for the patch that will fix this setupproblem.

Possibly the video card is causing this error. There have been several chipsets that didn't work well with AMD chips (some TNT cards from personal experience) with the K6-2 chip.
