vxd files

By tracarts ·
I have a client who scrambled windows 98 on his gateway solo 2500 laptop. I reinstalled windows, but it still can't find two vxd files. One is fsd.vxd, the other is tsiusb.vxd. To be perfectly honest, I don't really know what hardware these filesare referring to. Any suggestions on where to look for them, what they might do? I assume the tsiusb is for the usb port. Because, the os wasn't working when he brought it to me, I am really working blind on what should be there and what shouldn't. Thanks for the help.

Get the two files off the Windows 98 CD and copy them into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEm and it should be fine. May be teadious looking through cab files but it's worth it. An easier way is if you have another identical laptop find the files in it's C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEm directory and copy them into yours.

You can locate the files by going through Start-Find-FILES OR FOLDERS, when the screen opens type in the file names, then click on find now.The hard drive will be scan for the files and when found double click the file located in bottom part of screen.

Start by going to startand run and then type in sfc (system file checker) There is going to 2 options. Go to the second option and type in the file that you would like. Press start and it will ask where you want to get it from and where it is going. You are getting it from d:\win98 and it is going to c:\windows\system and they go to next or start and it will automaticlly find the file if it is on the windows cd. Repeat for the other file and then reboot... Good Luck and I hope this helps...

Ok, one file is the computer's file system driver, while the other is, you were right, a driver for the USB port. These files really should have installed from the Win 98 reinstall. It's possible that if you reinstall again, the problem will desist. However, it's also possible to copy the two files from another Win 98 Laptop and have everything work out just fine.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
