VXD stop error on 98SE – how do I fix?

A machine I support al of a sudden got a VXD error and will not boot up, and if restarted keeps rebooting it self. I know I can reinstall a fresh version of windows, but I would rather not have to reinstall all the thrid party programs. Does any one know a quicker way of taking care of this. It will not boot in safe mode either. Nothing has changed on the system.
