W2K Backup "Media Tools" is grayed out

By sumner ·
I am trying to use the built-in backup utility in W2K. The Tools "Media Tools" is grayed out so I cannot use any of those functions. I have seen this on other W2K Pro and Server machines. Is there a way to use these media tools?

Tools -> Media Tools only shows up when you have a media device (tape drive, etc) connected to the system and running in the Removable Storage MMC Snap-In.
So, make sure your backup device is plugged in and that there is a media (tape) in it.
Thenopen up Removable Storage Management (I always open up a blank MMC by going Start -> Run -> MMC, then click Console -> Add Snap-In; now click Add, and scroll down to Removable Storage Management).
Then add the media to a media pool.
Then if you open NTBackup, you should be able to look at Media Tools.
But you must have the media defined in RSM first.
