W2K Hardware Profiles Docked vs Undocked

By boothby ·
How do I establish different hardware profiles for a Windows 2000 Pro Laptop (Dell Inspiron 8000), such that it can automatically call up the appropriate profile based on whether it is docked or undocked? Or, barring that, at least when it is hooked up or not hooked up to a network?

It will hook up to NW1 when docked & booted, and either no NW or NW2 when UNdocked and booted.

I would like to control power management, printer defaults, whether or not it searches for network drives (and, eventually, which network resoures it searches for: home-related drives from a home network, vs. work-related drives from the network at work).

This seems so simple, yet I have not been able to find out how to 1) sense the "DOCKED" state, and then 2) Get the machine to ACT upon that information.

Thanks in advance.

They way we did it at one time was that the docked profile would be a domain account, and the undocked profile would be a local account. There would still be a separate login for the Novell account if the passwords are not the same.
Once we switched to a Win2k environment from Netware, we just used the domain acount.
There are applications out there which handle this. IBM laptops have this option already installed.
