W2K Locks User Account During Bootup

By Madmouser ·
I am the victim in the following problem. The only cure I found was to move my activities to another computer. The problem has not happened with new computer. I would really like to know the solution in case it happens to someone else at my location, as moving to a new computer is normally not an option.

Each time I restart the computer, my account is locked out of the network during reboot. Normally, users are locked out after three unsuccessful attempts to log on. I'm locked out before first attempt. So long as I don't restart that computer, I can log onto the network with any other pc without a problem. I've tried installing all available service packs, and swapped out the network card. Those attempts did not resolve the problem. Ihave tried logging onto the pc with another user account and rebooting the pc. That account did not get locked out. For some reason, the problem is unique to this one pc and my username only. I have not yet tried blowing off Win2000 and reinstalling. I'd rather discover the problem and solution if at all possible. I have consulted with my fellow Workgroup Managers, Help Desk, and network administrators to no avail.

Network: Win2000
PC OS: Win2000

You problem is when you tried to logon with this UserId something is trying to connect to a network resources. So the problem is the local profile of this User. To fix that problem you should re-create the user profile. How to? logon with another UserId with administrator rights then go to C:\Documents and Settings\THE_USER_PROFILE and renamed that folder (Example C:\Documents and Settings\boby to C:\Documents and Settings\bobyold). After that you?ll need to logon with the UserId (the one who gets locked out everytime) and setup his profile as it was. Also if this user had files on his deskptop or in My Documents you can access those files in C:\Documents and Settings\bobyold folder.

To me, it sounds like a Service running on this troublesome Win2K Pro box is set up to start using your Windows user account INSTEAD of the "Local System" account.
So, check the Services, see which ones are set to Automatic, and see under what account they run. You will find at least one with your user account.
And the problem is that it has the wrong password.
So, you could change the password to your current one, or just change the service to run under "Local System"

hope this helps
