W2k pro disk cleanup

Soyo dragon MB, 356 Ram, 1 40 gig drive, service pack3 free. About one year old, more programs then I can list. In a nut shell I am removing the hard drive from old computer and putting it into new computer. I have researched MSKB about doing this. I at the third step using disk cleanup and it starts fine but hangs. I used window washer and it worked great- but disk cleanup still hangs.
