W2K Pro Install ? File Copy Error

by bkubai . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I am trying to upgrade my Compaq Armada M700 from NT4 to W2K Pro. At the end of file copying I get a File Copy Error message which says:

An error occurred copying file to C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\.

I chose to skip file and the process continues, but stops with the following error:

File cpqpx4.sys could not be found
Press any key to continue

After pressing the key the following message appears:

Setup failed. Press any key to restart your computer.

However the computer is unable tostart and I have to reboot and chose to run NT 4.

The file cpqpx4.sys appears in the C:\WINNT\System32\drivers directory. What could be cause of my problems?

I had uninstalled Compaq Diagnostics for Windows NT although the setup program is still recognising it as present and the icon is still in the Control Panel.
