W2k Pro permissions problem.

By lcooke ·
Logged on to a Laptop workstation as an administrator in my comanies network I am unable to change or modify the permissions on files ,folders or registry keys for the creator owner in windows 2000 PRO. After I apply the settings they revert back toprevious settings. Help please? The problem is the Creator Owner should have Full Control fights but has no rights assigned. I try to change but cannot as an administrator. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Have you tried taking ownership of the files? Go to the folder or file you are having problems with and right mouse click and pick properties, click on advanced > click on tab for owner. Highlight administrator > check the check box for Replace owner on sub containers and objects. Good Luck!

Make sure that the administrator logon you are using has LOCAL administrative rights - go to Admin. Tools/Computer Mgmt./Local Users and Groups/Groups and put the domain Administrator account (if that's what you're using) into the local Administrators group. Then you might also have to take ownership of the files or folders as suggested in the previous post. Hope this helps!
