W2k Pro, Windows Explorer refresh delays

By ralphg_hoo ·
In w2k's windows explorer (nt explorer, file manager), when I select a folder in the left pane-using the mouse, the folders contents appear immediately-in the right pane. BUT, when I use the keyboard to select a different folder via the up-down arrows, there is a considerable delay before the right pane updates. Is this adjustable??

W2k Pro, Windows Explorer refresh delays

What you are experiencing is normal. Mouse is faster than the Up and Down arrows. When you click a folder with your Mouse's button, Windows reads the contents of that folder and displays almost instantaneously.

When you move the Up or Down arrow,Windows does the same. So, if you're tapping the arrow key successively, Windows will try keep up with your strokes and it hopes that you make up your mind because it reads the contents of every folder that your arrow passes by. Then finally displays the contents of the last one you tapped.

Windows reads, discards, reads, discards as you tap the arrow key. You got the point.

Sorry, If c:\test is selected in the left pane, and a single down arrow key is pressed to highlight C:\test1, a significant delay takes place before the right pane is refreshed. This is the delay I'd like to reduce, adjust.
