W2K Restrictions on Program Installation

By o.john ·
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can restrict a user from installating or uninstalling programs on a Windows 2000 Professional system?

They can do everything else like a normal user or power user.

There are actually several ways to do this; just depends on how much you want to restrict the users access. If you don't have Active Directory running, the easiest way is to set the user as a normal user instead of a power user or administrator, and restrict the access to the Add and Remove applet in the Control Panel through use of the Local Group Policy.

1. Create a Normal User. OR
2. Create group policy, restricting the access for users to install/uninstall applications.
OR
3. If you have AD, then you can implement a Policy throughout the enterprise.
