W2K Server causes Admin Account Lockout

By fatih.kilci ·
We run an NT 4.0 Domain having W2K & NT 4.0 Member Servers and NT 4.0 DCs.
One of our W2K Servers acting as a Trend TVCS Server causes an Admin User Global Account to lockout although we do not use wrong passwords.
When we stop this server, account lockout does never happen.
When we boot this server and run, the BadPasswordcount of our Admin user exceeds the Account Lockout threshhold.
Any help will be appreciated.

Regards.

W2K Server causes Admin Account Lockout

It sounds like a Service is running under the Administrator account on this W2K Server, but it is configured with the wrong password.
I would open up Services, and look in the Log On As column. I bet there is a service that had Administrator instead of Local System account.
Go to Properties on that service, and either type in the correct Admin password, or change it to use a different service.

The question was not that simple: We had to log the security events on the given server, and found out that the change of a domain admin password caused one application to cause this. We removed the application and set it up again, and the problem was solved.
