W2K slow shutdown with NAL

by k_pestrue . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

I’m on a Netware 5.0 network with servers patched to SP3 running W2K Pro with Novell client 4.71 and SP3 for the client. We are using Zenworks 2.0 and remote management with that product.
Desktop machines are a mixture of Gateway and Dell hardware. We have started noticing on some W2K machines that shutdown can take as long as 10 minutes, the machine appears hung but does eventually shutdown or restart normally. Upgrading to the 4.8 client does not help the problem, however shutting down the NAL application launcher prior to shutting down W2K causes the machine to shutdown or restart normally. I have combed Microsoft and Novell’s sites and have not seen anything relating to this. All files and dll’s related to Zen and the client havebeen checked and appear to be the correct versions for the latest available. Novell’s powerdown fix for Dell does not work on our Dells for this issue. It seems to be related to NAL but other than that I’m at a loss. I did try adjusting the timeon the “WaitToKillAppTimeout” keys in the regestry without effect. Removing network drives prior to shutdown has not effect. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
