We are starting a migration to W2K and are noticing that some W2K machines can take as long as 10 minutes to shutdown, the machine appears hung but does eventually shutdown/restart normally. Upgrading from 4.71 client to 4.8 or 4.81 client does not help; however, shutting down the NAL app launcher prior to shutting down W2K enables the machine to shutdown/restart normally. I have not seen anything relating to this anywhere. All files and dll’s related to Zen 2.0 have been checked and are the correct versions. Novell’s powerdown fix for Dell does not resolve this issue. It seems to be related to NAL but other than that I’m at a loss. I did try adjusting the time on the “WaitToKillAppTimeout” keys in the regestry without effect. Removing network drives prior to shutdown has no effect.
My environment is as follows:
Ethernet 802.2 network,
Netware 5.0 servers patched to SP3
W2K Pro clients with Novell client 4.71/SP3.
Zenworks 2.0 and remote management.
MAPROOTOF=1 variable isset on the W/S and we are using a preferred server.
The line that calls NALEXPLD in the login Script is as follows:
IF MEMBER OF “.NALGROUP.OU.O” THEN
@\\ServerName1\SYS\PUBLIC\NalExpLd.exe
END
Desktop machines are Gateway E4200 and Dell Dimension 8100. Have same problem on both.
The W/S’s has been successfully imported into the tree, registered, and listed in ZEN DB.
Only policies are WinNT W/S package with Remote Management and Inventory, and
WinNT User Package with Workstation Import
Policy.
Have a search policy in place that limits searches to the immediate container.
This configuration has been working well with NT 4 for some time.
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
