I have an employee that uses the properties tab when he tries to print a Word doc. He tries to change the size of the paper and it does not take - no error mes.

You might need to change the user's permissions with the print device.
If the problem is that the job prints without a settings page coming up, try imposing a 'print preview' from the primary settings for the printer.
Changing the icon in the Word program toolbar will also do the trick. Right click toolbar, then Customize - of the two print icons available, you want the one with the ellipsis (icon + ...); you will need to do the same for the Print Preview window's toolbar, that way printer properties always comes up before printing.
The user is Admin to his machine and the printer. He is able to view/edit the properties before he prints....they just don't print the way he chooses. He changes the size of the paper and the tray to pull it from but it always prints on 8x11
