Well, with Win2K, you don't.
Have th drive formatted in NTFS, then you can assign Security onto a drive.
The way I like to do things is set the Share permissions to Autenticate Users -Full Control.
Then on the Security tab of this shared folder, that is where I really assign my user permissions.
Try to keep it with assigning Security to groups only. It is a a lot easier to maintain.
Then this way, if it is a user trying to connect from their normal workstation (that is a member of the same domain as this file server with the shared folder), as long as the user account is specified in the Security, then they get access. If not, they are denied.
If they are using a workstation that is NOT a member of a domain (say someone brings in alaptop from home and plugs into your network and needs to get to that share), they will get a challenge/responce box where they can enter in their domain user name and password. They could then get in.
