W32time errors!

By TobeJ ·
Hi there,

I have installed a W2K server on a new IBM server recently.... All of a sudden we are getting these w32time errors... it says something like computer is a PDC of the domain and the root of the forest, configure to syncronize from external time sources using the Net Time command.

The server is not connected to the internet...
How do I stop this?

Thanks...

Toby

Look at this article, "Windows Time Service (W32Time) and NET TIME".

http://www.greyware.com/software/domaintime/product/w32time.asp

REMOVE SPACES from the pasted URL.

It's an extensive article detailing causes and resolutions. There's too much to cut and paste into this thread, but it should help you work through the problem.

A quick way to stop the errors is to open the Services applet, scroll to the bottom and find the 'Windows Time' service. Stop it, and set it to manual.

This will stop the errors. In the future, you do connect to the internet, then you will need to Sync your system to one of the 'time' web sites.

Best of luck

I've used this command to set the time on my domain controllers. The above answers are all correct, this is just what I use and works just fine for me (remove spaces from command in quotes):

at prompt => "net time \\computername /setsntp:time.nist.gov"

I'm sorry... I forgot to add the Set switch to the command. The command should look like this:

"net time \\computername /setsntp:time.nist.gov /Set"
