W32Time warning messages

By whatnetever ·
On our Win2K server it's set to syn time with an Internet time source (USNO). However, it's been at least 2 months that these two events have been in the System log everyday, every 45 minutes:

ID 11 The NTP server didn't respond
ID 31 Attempt to set date priort to 1995 aborted

I have searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base for these two ID's, but found nothing. I have found articles in other sites that said these problems are related to firewalls (NTP's UDP port 123 is not opened), whichis not our case (they are opened). I can ping the Internet time server successfully. Don't know why time is not synchronized successfully. Anyone has an idea about this?

Thanks for the help!

I have the same problem on our PDC server. I used the Navy time servers out of Denver CO. I still haven't been able to resolve this issue but was able to sync time with time servers in Sunnyvale California and one in Maryland but after 24 hours I get the same event log messages.

I used to use the USNO time servers also and had the same problems frequently. I think they must be either very busy, or they must shut the servers down frequently for maintenance. I switched to using the NIST (Natl. Inst. of Standard & Technology) servers instead and have fewer problems. The main ones are: time-a.nist.gov and time-b.nist.gov. They have others - you can check at their web site: www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/its.htm. Hope this helps!

Tried your suggestion but the warning messages keep coming up as usual. :-( Thanks anyway. Doesn't hurt to try.
