I have recently changed from a novell based network to a windows 2000 domain. Since the changeover the 98 workstations refuse to ask for client for microsoft networks logon prompts, it dumps you straight into windows. The only time it pops up are after first installing the client (at this point you can happily put a user and the domain in) and if you manually select log off after you are dumped into windows. There does appear to be authentication accross the domain when you are dumped straight in on startup – the permissions for the user first entered when installing the client appear to be correct.
I have tried removing all the networking settings and the NIC itself and then adding them back in but to no avail.
Short of reinstalling the O/S (which is not a valid solution 😉 I am at a loss what to do.
