W98SE TAPI reinstall

By paul ·
Is there any way to reinstall TAPI under W98SE without reinstalling the whole system?
Likely files have been modified by a virus and can no longer access COM1 via TAPI

To remove and reinstall the TAPI modem drivers
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Modems icon.
Click the General tab.
Click the modem, and then click the Remove button.
If you have a modem driver supplied by the modem manufacturer, click Have Disk. Windows will install the drivers from the disk.
If you do not have a modem driver supplied by the modem's manufacturer, uncheck the "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list" option.
Click Next. Windows should re-detect the modem and install the proper drivers for it.
